Frances Yip, Elisa Chan and Maria Cordero concert at Fallsview Casino

The Avalon Ballroom at Niagara Fallsview Casino August 30th 2010

Normally, I will shy away from publishing any article regarding the concerts I have attended at any of the Casinos but I will make an exception for this because my wife and I truly enjoyed the evening very much.

For most of you not familiar with Ms. Frances Yip, you would not understand the hype about her fame. She is usually know to most Chinese as the Barbara Streisand of the East. In the eighty Ms Frances Yip proper into fame after singing the theme song for the Shanghai Beach Cantonese mini series. Born in Hong Kong and attended Catholic mission school in her earlier years where the missionary help mold her singing career.

Last night Ms Frances Yip, Ms Elisa Chan and Ms. Maria Cordera performed a heart warming evening at the Avalon Ballroom at Niagara Fallsview Casino for a capacity crowd. What make these three ladies stand out are their sincere appreciation for the crowd that was there to attend the concert. They pour out their heart in songs and words and enchant the evening to the crowd.

Unfortunately, without getting permission first I am unable to shoot and publish any photos of the evening.

NATIONAL DAY DINNER & DANCE

This year the annual SMA National Day Dinner & Dance event is once again held at Ka Lung Chinese Cuisine Restaurant in Richmond Hill (550 Highway 7 East, Richmond Hill, ON). Reception start at 6:30pm and the cost per person is $28. Not surprisingly the SMA organization like every year did their best to secure a great restaurant at a reasonable price for the member to gather and enjoy themself. About one hundred and eighty members and friends gather to celebrate Singapore and Malaysia National day celebration at Richmond Hill.

This year MS Haveen Sidhu was invited to the annual SMA National day event to talk about her desire to run in the municipal election. Harveen Sidhu is 25 years old and has had her heart set on entering politics since she was a young girl. She was born in Malaysia. Her parents moved to Canada when she was 2 years old. SMA wishes her well in the coming election. As well we are thrill to welcome Mr. Victor Oh a respectable Canadian of Singaporean origin and a recipient of the Canadian Citizenship award for 2009 to encourage our member to participate in the Canadian Mosaics and to volunteer in their local charity.
As in previous years I have no doubt our members will surprise us with their singing and dancing prowess.

The local delegation from the conferderation of Fujian Association welcome President Hu’s visit to Canada

Heavy down pour during noon in Ottawa an hour before
President Hu Jin Tao motocade arrived at the Parliment

Thursday, June 24th 2010

Amidst the chaos and crowded front lawn of the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, thousands of Chinese from Quebec and Ontario congregate to cheer and welcome President Hu Jin Tao while the Falun Kong and a few others groups opposed to the Communist state of China protested on the right side of the lawn.

The Confederation of Fujian Associations of Canada a Canadian organization with ties to the Chinese Embassy in Toronto organized the trip and I was invited as a photographer. There were five buses fully loaded with delegates from the association and numerous cars fully pack with delegates going to Ottawa to welcome the Chinese President. We left first thing in the morning at around 7:00 a.m. and arriving at Ottawa at 11:00 a.m.

Unfortunately for all the weather is Ottawa was bad. It rain heavily before the President motorcades arrived at the parliament and the sun was out after he left.

Due to tight security, President Hu Jin Toa and the Prime Minister Mr. Stephen Harper did not step out to greet the crowds. However, that did not deter the crowd from cheering on the motorcade.
