George Chiu Golf Classic

Tuesday May 18th. 2010

Mr. George Chiu was born and raised in Taiwan but migrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1967. It was there in Montreal that George was first introduced to the game of golf and not surprisingly, since his home is situated near a golf course.

By 1979 George move to Brampton, Ontario with his family and together with his brother James Chiu and another friend started a restaurant and named it “Mandarin”. From their humble beginning and his strong vision to grow George together with his brother and friend work hard and slowly expanded their restaurant enterprise. Today with their strong commitment and hard work they have grown to a total of twenty-one restaurants spread across Ontario.

Early today at Mandarin Restaurant located at 7660 Woodbine Avenue, in Markham, Ontario, Mr. George Chiu and the members of the Canadian Chinese golfers Association jointly held a press conference to announce the inauguration of the George Chiu Golf Classic to be held in July 24th and 25th 2010 at Angus Glen Golf Club.

Mr. George Chiu is humbled and privileged to lend his name for this golf classic. He hopes through this tournament young Chinese golfers can be encouraged to participate in the game. He intends to establish a scholarship to help in the development of deserving young Chinese golfers.

THE 8TH ANNUAL COMMUNITY CRIME AWARENESS DAY

THE 8TH ANNUAL COMMUNITY CRIME AWARENESS DAY
September 20th 2008

Thousands of local residences gather at the city centre to celebrate Mississauga 8th annual community crime awareness day. Thanks to the local business and corporate sponsors, the event was a huge hit for young and old.

The purpose of this event was to serve as a tool for citizens to come together and learn about community safety and policing issues in the region, emphasizing cohesion and municipal harmony. This year the theme is “HORMONIOUS FAMILY”.

The Mississauga Chinese Business Association in partnership with Peel Regional Police organized the event, Rogers TV and Safe City Mississauga. This year event features special demonstration by the Peel Regional Police’s Tactical & Rescue team, a varieties of cultural performances from cultural dances troupe, chinese and Japanese martial art of self defenses, free safety information and free child ID kit.
A big thanks to our city finest for their huge present for the day event to enable the community to learn about community policing as well as lots of food and giveaways

During the past years Maple Leaf Foods was very generous in donating all the hot dogs for the day’s event, unfortunately on August 23rd weeks before the event, Maple Leaf Foods voluntarily recalled all of the products produced at their Bartor Road facility from January 1, 2008, to present day as a precautionary measure after a Listeria monocytogenes strain was identified in some Maple Leaf products. As a result of this unfortunate event the organizer for the community crime awareness day, Mississauga Chinese Business Association has to switch to serving Chinese foods.
